ISPs Are Not Responsible For Internet Piracy

ISP - Internet Service Provider

Why should the ISPs be responsible for activities of their clients on internet. What is the stand of European Court of Justice on this issue?

European Court of Justice has ruled the verdict that Internet Service Providers ( ISPs ) can not be forced to monitor and block the access of users to internet.

During the last several years, the filming studios, music producers and other owners of copyright materials, such as movies and music, are trying to blame the ISPs for the expansion of piracy.

According to their opinion, the Internet Service Providers should be responsible for the behavior of their users on internet.

If they notice the illegal activity of users, such as unauthorized downloading of copyright material, they are supposed to report this user and ban his access to internet.

But, the European Court of Justice considers that ISPs can not monitor and ban the internet users.
